Mastermind Japan x Danner & Suicoke

20 years ago, Honma Masaaki created Mastermind Japan to find Japan’s Chanel or Hermes. This year, its fans have been blessed with the comeback of Mastermind Japan’s main line but designer collaborations have turned into the pillar and an essence of the brand. Why is he producing countless collaborations? What is the undeniable appeal of this oversized high end streetwear to the collaborating designers? Is Mastermind Japan a lifestyle? Is it a community?
But before we ponder the future of Mastermind Japan world community, here is another 2017 key collaboration from Mastermind Japan. Danner, a Portland based outdoor boots maker and Suicoke, a cult Russian doll maker turned shoe designers from Japan.

Danner was founded in 1932 in Wisconsin. Since then, the company was once American’s only domestic hiking boots maker and provided protective footwear for the US military. Mastermind Japan x Danner boots feature embroidered Mastermind Japan logos in white at heel and tongue with Danner boots’ classic EVA soles, D-ring lace ups and leather lined interior.

Suicoke was founded in 2006 in Japan, as a Russian doll maker. It made a transition to footwear and their Vibram outsole sandals are known for having cult followers in Japan and overseas. Just like the company’s beginning, Suicoke’s footwear designs are constantly re-newing itself. Mastermind Japan x Suicoke boots feature suede leather exterior and sheep fur lined interior with velcro fastened vamp strap. There are dual branded logos throughout and an elongated pull tab at rear zip up closure.
